Cobra Kai

Q: What would be a good question to keep in mind as I watch Cobra Kai?
A: To choose one’s fate is to choose in the moment which you’d rather be—whether slave to your will of flesh (thirst, sex, hunger, power, control) or the power of love. Ask, “Is each character taking this opportunity to get closer to self (lower-case “s”) or Self (upper-case “s” which is love). Every choice is a step closer or further away. Everyone believes at least on some level that Love conquers all, that love is the best choice, but this show exemplifies the choices we make thinking we are acting in our best interest, in self-preservation, when it does nothing of the kind really but separate us both from receiving love from others and thinking ourselves unworthy of receiving love. Whenever one chooses love of self—power, sense of control—over supporting someone else and being true to one’s sensibilities of love, the more calloused one can become and more confused about what is even right anymore. “No hero, no villain,” Kreese says. It’s true, but the hero and villain both have lessons to learn in love and what that truly looks like.
Q: Is there anything you want me to know about COVID-19?
A: [No answer.]
Q: In the Create 30 journey, I’m supposed to be forgiving and accepting of myself. Am I doing a good job of that?
A: No, for you aren’t looking into the bowels of your disdain, just at the plate which you’ve wiped clean. The mess is still jumbled up in your belly, slowly digesting. You are still feeding on old programs and beliefs you fed yourself for years. Take for example your inability to trust. You are unwilling to trust others because of your vulnerability and patterns of hurt in the past. You are still waiting for the other shoe to drop. You don’t fully trust the good intent of the Universe or those close to you. You keep yourself slightly apart in order to make the “inevitable” loss of a friendship or enamorship not hurt quite so bad. You never feel fully invested, as you expect to be hurt and let down and disappointed by others. Love, love, love with your whole heart. There is no true disappointment in living a life like that.
